The problem of dysphagia
Patients with Dysphagia suffer from a protein and mechanical energy deficit that prevents them from swallowing food that has not the proper textured and has an uneven viscosity, posing serious health risks. The most serious risk is pneumonia, which is one of the three main causes of death in long-term care patients.
Dysphagia is a dysfunction of the digestive system, manifested by a difficulty in swallowing food and drink. The transit of food from the mouth through the trachea to the stomach is potentially dangerous and, if left untreated, may lead to pneumonia.
Our process of preparing DysphaMeal products ensures that each patient gets the correct intake of the necessary nutrients without the need for additional medication.
Each food, entirely natural, is cooked for a long time at a constant low temperature of 57°C and then dehydrated by sublimation. In this way, we are able to maintain the macro- and micro-nutrients of each dish and their sensory and visual appearance.
The patient can thus count on a stable and homogeneous food preparation, with a measurable and specific nutrient intake suitable for his or her needs, thus avoiding the problem of protein-energy malnutrition and without the need for pharmacological supplementation.
