Continuously expanding research and development
Harg's close collaboration with the prestigious DISSAL
Harg’s close collaboration with the prestigious DISSAL (Department of Health Sciences of the University of Genoa) has over the years bolstered our commitment to research and development, enabling us to demonstrate and guarantee the scientific efficacy of Dysphameal products.
Supporting this evidence is the confirmed and certified data presented to the international scientific community in late 2019:
- Improved albumin level, a sign of proper nutrition and proper assimilation.
- Increased lymphocyte component, which is useful and necessary for immune defense and increased efficacy in vaccines.
- Improved lipid profile: triglycerides are regularized, cholesterol is within proper parameters.
- Average 70% decrease in the number of monthly enemas.
- Positive response to food intake, with a significant reduction in hostile eating behaviors.

What is the Weancare project
These important findings have emerged through the application of the WeanCare feeding protocol, developed and implemented in collaboration with DISSAL, with the aim of measuring the clinical-care effects on the nutritional, biochemical and functional profile in a cohort of institutionalized frail patients. The observational study was done in residential facilities, on a sample of about 200 patients who were fed a personalized menu for at least 6 months. The study began in October 2018 with the collection of anthropometric, biochemical, nutritional, and functional data at the time of initiation and every three months.
The WeanCare project includes meals without nutritional or pharmacological supplementation.

Concrete and certified results
Given the significant relevance and positivity of the results, Harg is making the WeanCare protocol available to all assisted living residences that wish to be part of it.
The program includes training meetings and operational phases, with a specialist in charge of the WeanCare project in each.
Particular attention is paid to the training of the entire staff of the residence: facility management, facility assistant management, medical management, head of the hall, coordinators, ward operators and kitchen operators.
In addition, family members are involved in the whole project for a day of information and participation, during which they can also taste some dishes.
In order to properly monitor the progress of the guest participating in the protocol, a WeanCare portal is made available within which the facility manager enters data through a simple, intuitive and fast procedure, within a restricted and password-protected area, in full compliance with privacy regulations.
This provides total objectivity of physiological findings and measurements on the positivity of the trends of the various rating scales.
At the appointed times, all values will be analyzed by the scientific team of the University of Genoa, which is responsible for comparing the entered data with the expected data. The result will be published in compliance with privacy regulations, and at scheduled appointments meetings will be established with RSA managers to analyze the development of the protocol within the facility.
